The photos are also shown on top in Recently added, except when the photos were already uploaded in the past. You can drag & drop multiple selected photos or even multiple folders (subfolders will not be included) in the Photos tab, which adds them to the timeline, where they are sorted by "Date taken" (when available). You will have to find them in "Photos" but preferably in " Recently added" where they should be on top (if not already uploaded in the past). Unlike when uploading from a computer, there is no option to add to an album. In the left hand lower corner of the screen you see "n items uploaded." Open the folder from where you want to upload photosĬlick UPLOAD in the right hand lower corner. Therefore it is recommended to upload directly into an album if you want them in an album (see further). W hen some photos were already uploaded in the past, they will not upload again (duplicate prevention), will not appear on top in "Recently added" and will NOT be added to the album. Close the pop-up if you do not want to add to an album. Select one or more photos (Ctrl+select) and click "Open." The photo(s) will upload to the "Photos" tab. When you select a folder there will probably be skipped files. Select a folder or photos on your computer and click "Open". You get a choice between "Computer" and "Google Drive" In the Photos or Albums tab, click the "Upload" button. It allows to edit photos before uploading and to upload selectively. You keep control and can create a nice album collection. This method allows you to add photos/videos directly to albums. When uploaded from June 1, 2021, onward, they will count for the reduced storage. When you select "Storage saver" (former "High Quality") in the Backup & Sync app, photos will be compressed and will NOT count against your Google storage when uploaded before June 1, 2021, unless Photos skips them (then they will use storage in Drive). That allows to search for the content in Google Photos. Tip: you can rename the photos to include the folder title. There is no option to upload directly from Drive to an album, but you can find them on top in "Recently added" (when not uploaded before to Google Photos). If you want to convert folders on your computer to albums in Google Photos, you will have to do that manually later on (see below). Photos/videos will upload into the "Photos" tab in Google Photos, sorted by camera date (if present). Edits done on the computer or in Google Photos do not sync to Google Drive. That allows sharing of Drive folders that include sub-folders.īackup and sync does not really sync. The folders structure from the computer will be maintained in Drive but not in Photos. #IPHOTO TO GOOGLE PHOTO WINDOWS#See Geeks on Tour video about installing Backup & Sync to upload photos and videos from your Windows computer to Google Photos.īackup & Sync uploads images to Google Drive. If you don't want your photos uploading to Google Drive, do not use B&S. Trying to merge already backed up files will be very difficult. We recommend creating a new hierarchy on your computer for new photos. If you want all photos in albums, you will have to do that manually later on.ī&S builds a new hierarchy in Google Drive which mirrors the computer folder structure before passing the photos on to Google Photos. In fact it's no "sync," but a one time upload. B&S uploads to folders in "My computer" on Google Drive and from there to Google Photos. On May 12, 2018, the Desktop Uploader was discontinued and no longer works.ī&S is intended to upload photos in bulk, without automatically creating albums. Backup & Sync (B&S), a Google Drive app, was launched in July 2017 and was intended to replace Google Photos Backup ("Desktop Uploader").
